The Private Life of Dani Pedrosa Video

Dani Pedrosa is probably the most enigmatic of MotoGP’s “Aliens”. He doesn’t have the charisma of a Valentino Rossi, he doesn’t attract controversy like teammate Casey Stoner, and he doesn’t have the exuberant victory celebrations of Jorge Lorenzo.

There’s also a large segment of American fans who still can’t forgive Pedrosa for taking out his teammate Nicky Hayden at Estoril in 2006, almost costing the Kentucky Kid the championship.

Honda Racing has released a video offering a peak at the everyday life of Pedrosa at his winter home in Switzerland. In the film, we see how Pedrosa trains, what he does for fun, but perhaps most tellingly, how he values his privacy (yes, it’s a bit ironic, with the camera following him around).

Check out the video after the jump:

Charley Boormans BMW R1200 GS Adventure Stolen and Recovered

Adventure touring documentary star Charley Boorman and his BMW R1200GS Adventure have traveled a long way together, but the motorcycle had a bit of an adventure on its own after thieves stole the bike.

The stolen BMW wasn’t the one Boorman rode with Ewen McGregor in “Long Way Round” (that was a R1150GS Adventure) or the one used in the sequel “Long Way Down“. Boorman did ride it on his last project, “Charley Boorman’s Extreme Frontiers: Canada”.

The GS wasn’t gone for long however. The motorcycle was equipped with Bike Trac, an anti-theft GPS tracking system from U.K.-based Road Angel Group. The Bike Trac system was triggered at 4:29 am GMT on April 21 and tracked to a location in London. The trail then led to the nearby town of Watford.

Armed with a warrant, police were able to track Boorman’s GS to a garage where it was found partially dismantled, just hours after it was stolen.

“Naturally I was pretty shocked to learn that my bike had been stolen,” says Boorman. “In normal circumstances the chance of ever seeing a bike again after it’s been stolen is very slim. But with the knowledge that it had a Bike Trac unit fitted, I was fairly hopeful. To get the bike recovered so soon really is a testament to the system indeed.”

Boorman’s next adventure will be a 3000-mile trip through Africa with Moto Aventures.

Man Sues BMW for Causing Persistent Erection

A man is suing BMW and seat-manufacturer Corbin-Pacific because a four-hour motorcycle ride gave him an erection that would not go away.

The civil suit, filed in the Superior Court of California in San Francisco, alleges the plaintiff, Henry Wolf, developed a severe case of priapism after a long ride on a 1993 BMW motorcycle. Priapism is a medical condition where a penis becomes erect and does not return to a flaccid state.

Wolf claims he rode  the motorcycle on a four-hour trip – two hours each way – on May 1, 2010. Soon after, the man claims, he developed a case of priapism. He blames the condition on the motorcycle seat which is describes as “ridge-like”.

The man claims the condition caused emotional distress. Court documents state:

Plaintiff now suffers from priapism (a long lasting erection), and has been experiencing continuing problems since his motorcycle ride. He is now unable to engage in sexual activity, which is causing him substantial emotional and mental anguish. Plaintiff is distraught and distressed because of this. Defendants, and each of them, are liable to Plaintiff due  [to] their negligent design, manufacture and/or installation of the seat on Plaintiff’s motorcycle

Vespa Arrives in India

Piaggio has launched its Vespa brand in India, introducing the iconic scooter to the world’s second-largest two-wheeler market.

When we think of motorcycle in India, we tend to think of low-cost small displacement motorcycles and scooters. That’s beginning to change with the influx of larger displacement models commonly found in other markets. Vespa opens a new premium scooter segment to India with the LX125.

Priced at 66,661 rupees (US70), the Vespa LX125 is the most affordable Vespa in the world (by comparison, Vespa USA prices the LX 50 at ,399 while the LX150 is priced at ,599). but still represents a 40% premium over the average scooter in India. Despite the premium price, Indian consumers are willing to pay more for the Vespa brand.

“With its India foray, Piaggio will create an exclusive, premium segment,” Ravi Chopra, chair of Piaggio’s Indian subsidiary tells the Associated Press. “The price tag will be secondary as the pride of ownership will be foremost.”

The Vespa LX125 uses a new engine developed specifically for the Indian market. According to Piaggio, the three-valve four-stroke 125cc engine offers 141 mpg, more than existing Vespa models offered in Europe.

Piaggio will build the Vespa LX125 in a new factory in Baramati, India. The new plant will eventually an annual production capacity of 150,000 units. To put that into perspective, Piaggio currently sells about 150,000 Vespa scooters each year.

Kenny Roberts Motorcycle Collection Up For Sale

Motorcycling legend Kenny Roberts has commissioned RMD Motors to auction off some rare and exclusive motorcycles from his collection, presumably to make room for more. The Japan-based company is known the world over for its collection of rare and classic motorcycles for sale, many of which are retired grand prix machines fortunate enough to escape the fate of most decommissioned racebikes: the crusher.

Headlining the Roberts collection is the 2004 Proton KRV5 originally ridden by Kurtis Roberts, King Kenny’s youngest son. The five-cylinder grand prix machine never achieved much success on the world stage, but will easily make you the center of attention at your local trackday.

Next up is the 2002 Proton KR3, formally ridden by Nobuatsu Aoki. The four-stroke 990cc era of MotoGP began in 2002, but many teams, including Roberts’, simply couldn’t afford the development costs of switching and continued racing with the 500cc two-stroke. While the four-stroke machines dominated that year (especially the Honda of Valentino Rossi), the Proton KR3 represents the end of an era in two-stroke grand prix machines.

Other racebikes from the collection up for sale include the Modenas 500 V3, Kurtis Roberts’ 1999 Erion Racing Honda CBR900RR Formula Xtreme bike putting out over 200 hp at the wheel, and a 1994 Yamaha TZ125 the youngest Roberts rode in the Open Ducados Series in Spain, a breeding ground for up-and-coming stars in the sport.

What makes all of these historic machines even more desirable is the fact they’ve been well maintained and will be delivered to their new owner in running or near-running condition. Prices are not listed, so for more information about each of these classic racebikes, and to see the rest of the RMD collection, contact RMD Motors at www.rmdmotors.com.
